Englishman Jake Clarke-Salter has completed a loan move to Championship club Sunderland from reigning Premier League champions Chelsea.
This will be the first time that the 20-year-old defender will be loaned to a Championship side since he started his football career at Chelsea academy, and he will be at Sunderland until the end of the season.
Jake Clarke-Salter was an FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League winner during his playing days in the Blues’ academy.
The defender made his debut for the Stamford Bridge landlords in a 4-0 win at Aston Villa in 2016.
Last season, he was on loan at League One side Bristol Rovers before playing four games including the final as England Under-20s won the FIFA World Cup for that age group in the summer.
Chelsea confirmed his departure from the club via their twitter handle.
The London club announced that the 24-year-old has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract and will wear the number 8 shirt.
Barkley had already made 150 Premier League appearances for Everton, as well as being named in England squads for both the 2014 World Cup and 2016 European Championships.
