For recovering N11.6 billion, FG pays 20 whistleblowers N375.8 million

The Federal Government has said on Wednesday it had released about N375.8 million for payment of 20 whistleblowers who provided information that led to the recovery over N11.6 billion.

Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun revealed that the payments are the first under the country’s Whistleblower Policy, which entitles a whistleblower to a minimum of five percent of the money involved in the corruption case reported by the individual.

“The payment underscores the commitment of the President Muhmmadu Buhari-led administration to meet its obligations to information providers under the Whistleblower Policy, which is an essential tool in the fight against corruption,” the statement read.

The identities of the individuals involved were not revealed, for security reasons especially to protect the identities of information providers from retaliation.
